The brief

A working environment and a technology showcase in one.

Huawei was opening a development and technology expertise centre in Tashkent for Central Asian markets. The space had to serve two very different scenarios - a productive working environment for engineering teams on the upper floor and a public showcase for demonstrating products to partners and government clients on the lower one.

An added requirement was engineering infrastructure with spare capacity for lab equipment and room to extend the cabling network without opening up the walls.

Approach

Campus logic - a public floor and a working floor.

The first floor is open and includes the reception, a 280 sqm demonstration hall with integrated AV systems and a conference zone for outside events. The second floor is closed and includes engineering open space blocks, six access controlled laboratory bays and a server room with its own cooling loop.

Category 6A structured cabling, dedicated power lines for equipment and a raised floor throughout every working zone leave room to reconfigure without construction work.

A demo hall, laboratories and collaboration spaces.

The demonstration hall is the main public zone. Interactive Huawei Enterprise product stands are built into the architecture with no temporary fittings. The hall can be reconfigured in a single day whenever the product line up changes.

The working floor holds more than 160 engineering desks, collaboration zones with movable partitions, quiet booths for focused work and a coffee point on every wing.

Result

28 weeks. The campus welcomed its first teams on time.

All six laboratory bays were handed over together with the main open space. The engineering systems passed Huawei's technical auditor with no remarks. The demonstration hall opened on the planned date, and the first partner event took place a week after handover.

The campus works as a single organism - the engineering environment and the public showcase do not compete for space, they complete each other.

A technology campus where the engineering team's working environment and the company's product showcase exist as two floors of the same building, with no compromise for either scenario.
